Position Description: Booksellers are the “happy-helpy” faces of Title Wave Books – the friendly folks you see out and about on the sales floor, at the cash registers, and the Information Counter. After a period of successful bookseller training, this employee will be actively working toward a position at Title Wave's Intake Counter, with an eye toward being a used-book buyer. Title Wave’s managers are promoted from bookseller and book-buyer positions.
Statement of Purpose: To provide excellent customer service to Title Wave’s customers. To purchase, shelve and merchandise all products in a manner that supports excellent customer service and thus the financial goals of Title Wave Books.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Assistance
- The primary duties and responsibilities of a Title Wave Books Bookseller focus on serving the customer in a friendly, efficient and knowledgeable manner, both on the sales floor and on the telephone.
- You will be responsible for answering customer questions, locating books and gifts, recommending additional titles and related gifts.
- You will be responsible for accurately and efficiently processing sales at the cash registers.
- You must show enthusiasm for helping people, be outgoing, and display excellent manners, and verbal communication skills. You must exhibit energy and stamina, be able to stand for extended periods of time, and work well in a busy retail environment.
Product Merchandising
- A Title Wave Books Bookseller must develop the skills to shelve books, gifts, and CDs quickly and accurately, and to display merchandise in a manner that supports excellent customer service as well as Title Wave’s sales goals.
- You will be responsible for merchandising an assigned section as well as maintaining displays throughout the bookstore.
- You must be able to lift up to 30 pounds, use stepladders, and push book-carts.
Store and Industry Knowledge
- A Title Wave Books Bookseller must know Title Wave’s customer service policies and procedures, store organization, as well as current events, book news and bestseller lists.
Other Duties
- Every Title Wave employee must be willing to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the bookstore, which is open evenings and weekends.
- Every Title Wave employee is responsible for basic housekeeping and cleaning of the bookstore.
- Every Title Wave employee is responsible for ensuring that the Title Wave Books experience and environment is a pleasant, friendly one for all customers and co-workers.
- Work quickly and successfully to complete bookseller training with an eye toward working at Title Wave's Book Intake Counter.
- Additional duties may be assigned to support the success of Title Wave Books.
Technical Skills:
A Title Wave Books Bookseller will be responsible for efficiently learning the following computer and technical skills:
- Square One inventory management software
- TnT inventory and special order management software
- Internet book research
- Cash Register, check and credit card processing
- Telephone and paging system
Salary Range: $9.00 per hour. Pay raises are merit & knowledge based, with most people earning $10.00 or more in 3-6 months. Used-Book Buyers, Senior Booksellers and Title Wave’s Managers earn higher wages and are promoted from Bookseller positions.
